Introduction

This software was designed to be used in conjunction with a CD ripper. Perhaps you CD ripper lacks the ability to access CD album info or perhaps you don't trust your ripper to not keep tabs on your ripping behaviour when it connects to the Internet. In any case, CD2MP3 Tagger will automatically tag MP3 files based on the audio CD in your drive.

Requirements

You must have a CD ROM (or better) drive and must be running Windows (this software has only been tested on XP).

Setting Up

CD2MP3 Tagger should work fine with the default settings. However, several aspects as customisable which are explained below.

Options tab

Track read options

CD read options

Import options

Rename folder based on FreeDB album - renames MP3 folder based on the CD album name taken from the FreeDB match.

Rename ticked files based on title - renames the selected/ticked MP3 files based on the titles taken from the FreeDB match.

Refresh track list - refreshes the list of tracks/MP3 files

Tag v1

MP3 files can have several different tag versions. This tab contains the MP3 ID3 Version 1 information. Clicking on 'Copy v1 tag to v2' copies the information held in the version 1 tag to the version 2 tag.

Tag v2

MP3 files can have several different tag versions. This tab contains the MP3 ID3 Version 2 information. Clicking on 'Copy v2 tag to v1' copies the information held in the version 2 tag to the version 1 tag.

There is a choice of which revision of the version 2 tag to choose (between 2.3 and 2.4). Version 2.3 is the more supported of the two revisions.

FreeDB

CD2MP3 Tagger uses the FreeDB system to identify the CD inserted in to your CD drive. Therefore CD2MP3 Tagger will require access to the Internet (and your firewall must allow it to connect to the FreeDB database). The server and root are by default those specified in the FreeDB documentation - if you wish to change these then please consult the information on the FreeDB website.

You can test the FreeDB connection by clicking on the 'Test FreeDB connection' button. If you tick the 'Debug' option then you will see the response from the FreeDB server.

Sometimes there will be several matches found in the FreeDB system - when this occurs you will be given the option to select the one that correctly matches the CD you have in your drive.

If you no longer have the CD to hand, you may look for it on the FreeDB website and then enter the 'Disc ID' and 'Genre/Category' manually. Once you have pasted the two details from the FreeDB website in to the relevant boxes of CD2MP3 Tagger, then click on the 'Manually look up CD' button to retrieve the album info.
